چکیده

We study a very general class of games — multi-dimensional aggregative games — which in particular generalize both anonymous games and weighted congestion games. For any such game that is also large (meaning that the influence that any single player’s action has on the utility of others is diminishing with the number of players in the game), we solve the equilibrium selection problem in a strong sense. In particular, we give an efficient weak mediator : an algorithm or mechanism which has only the power to listen to reported types and provide nonbinding suggested actions, such that (a) it is an asymptotic Nash equilibrium for every player to truthfully report their type to the mediator, and then follow its suggested action; and (b) that when players do so, they end up coordinating on a particular asymptotic pure strategy Nash equilibrium of the induced complete information game. In fact, truthful reporting is an ex-post Nash equilibrium of the mediated game, so our solution applies even in settings of incomplete information, and even when player types are arbitrary or worst-case (i.e. not drawn from a common prior). We achieve this by giving an efficient differentially private algorithm for computing a Nash equilibrium in such games. The rates of convergence to equilibrium in all of our results are inverse polynomial in the number of players n. We also give similar results for a related class of one-dimensional games with weaker conditions on the aggregation function, and apply our main results to a multi-dimensional market game. Our results can be viewed as giving, for a rich class of games, a more robust version of the Revelation Principle, in that we work with weaker informational assumptions (no common prior), yet provide a stronger solution concept (Nash versus Bayes Nash equilibrium). Previously, similar results were only known for the special case of unweighted congestion games. In the process, we derive several algorithmic results that are of independent interest, and that further the connections between tools in differential privacy and truthfulness in game-theoretic settings. We give the first algorithm for efficiently computing Nash equilibria in aggregative games of constant dimension d > 1. We also give the first method for solving a particular class of linear programs under the constraint of joint differential privacy. ∗Computing and Mathematical Sciences, California Institute of Technology; [email protected]. Projected-gradient algorithms for generalized equilibrium seeking in Aggregative Games are preconditioned Forward-Backward methods

We show that projected-gradient methods for the distributed computation of generalized Nash equilibria in aggregative games are preconditioned forward-backward splitting methods applied to the KKT operator of the game. Specifically, we adopt the preconditioned forward-backward design, recently conceived by Yi and Pavel in the manuscript “A distributed primal-dual algorithm for computation of ge...

Behavioral perfect equilibrium in Bayesian games

We develop the notion of perfect equilibrium in Bayesian games where players may have infinitely many types and actions. We formulate and examine several definitions of perfection in this setting using behavior strategies. The differences between the definitions arise from using various notions of convergence such as uniform, pointwise and almost everywhere pointwise convergence on the type spa...

Aggregative Games and Best-Reply Potentials

This paper introduces quasi-aggregative games and establishes conditions under which such games admit a best-reply potential. This implies existence of a pure strategy Nash equilibrium without any convexity or quasi-concavity assumptions. It also implies convergence of best-reply dynamics under some additional assumptions. Most of the existing literature’s aggregation concepts are special cases...

Continuous-time integral dynamics for Aggregative Game equilibrium seeking

In this paper, we consider continuous-time semidecentralized dynamics for the equilibrium computation in a class of aggregative games. Specifically, we propose a scheme where decentralized projected-gradient dynamics are driven by an integral control law. To prove global exponential convergence of the proposed dynamics to an aggregative equilibrium, we adopt a quadratic Lyapunov function argume...

Local Aggregative Games

Aggregative games provide a rich abstraction to model strategic multi-agent interactions. We introduce local aggregative games, where the payoff of each player is a function of its own action and the aggregate behavior of its neighbors in a connected digraph. We show the existence of pure strategy -Nash equilibrium in such games when the payoff functions are convex or sub-modular. We prove an i...
